Tangier Island moves at its own pace, and if you slow down enough to match it, you start to notice things. This great blue heron was working the marsh edge on a quiet evening walk — perfectly still, perfectly patient, and almost completely invisible until it wasn't. The marsh grass, the last of the golden light, the glassy water below, it all just held together in a way that stopped me in my tracks. Shot on Tangier Island, Virginia.
