At one point on our Iceland tour we walked out onto a glacier. Not into a cave, just on top of the ice itself. Up close the surface stops looking like what you expect ice to look like. It folds and curves and gets threaded through with volcanic ash in ways that make it look almost soft. This particular formation looked like something that had been sculpted rather than frozen.
